New Chevy Bolt EUV & EV Confirmed

The Chevy Bolt EV & EUV Will Get New Life On A New Platform

As the demand for EVs grow at Eagle Ridge GM, in Coquitlam, we receive several questions about our future inventory.  If one of the most affordable and best reviewed EVs on the current market interests you now, come speak to one of our sales advisors about getting on a Chevy Bolt EV or EUV pre-order list.  And today, we can now share some good news on the horizon after it was earlier suggested that GM would halt production of the popular and affordable EV.

In late July, of 2023, GM Chair and CEO Mary Barra announced during the company’s quarterly earnings conference call that Chevrolet will introduce a next-generation Bolt, continuing to deliver what customers have come to expect: affordability, range, and technology.

“Our customers love today’s Bolt. It has been delivering record sales and some of the highest customer satisfaction and loyalty scores in the industry,” said Barra. “It’s also an important source of conquest sales for the company and for Chevrolet.”

“We will keep the momentum going by delivering a new Bolt…and we will execute it more quickly compared to an all-new program with significantly lower engineering expense and capital investment by updating the vehicle with Ultium and Ultifi technologies and by applying our ‘winning with simplicity’ discipline.”

This move comes after a temporary production halt due to safety concerns related to battery fires. With this strategic decision, GM aims to reaffirm its commitment to electrification, showcase advancements in battery technology, and capitalize on the growing demand for sustainable transportation options. Furthermore, the company's transition from the BEV2 to the BEV3 platform underscores its dedication to innovation and improved performance.

The Resumption of Production

General Motors' decision to resume production of the Chevy Bolt EV and EUV demonstrates the company's determination to address the challenges it faced earlier and strengthen its position in the EV market. The temporary production halt was initiated due to a handful of battery-related fire incidents, prompting a thorough investigation and corrective actions. By resuming production, GM signals its confidence in rectifying the issues and ensuring the safety and reliability of its EV offerings.

The Significance of the Chevy Bolt EUV

The introduction of the Chevy Bolt EUV adds an exciting dimension to GM's electric vehicle lineup. The EUV (Electric Utility Vehicle) variant features a slightly larger size and a host of advanced technologies compared to its predecessor, the Bolt EV. Notably, the EUV offers GM's Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance technology, enhancing the vehicle's appeal and competitiveness in the market. This strategic decision aligns with GM's goal of catering to a broader range of consumer preferences and further establishing its presence in the EV segment.

Differences Between BEV2 and BEV3 Platforms

The transition from the BEV2 platform, which underpins the original Bolt EV, to the BEV3 platform, utilized for the new Bolt EUV and upcoming GM EVs, signifies the company's pursuit of innovation and improved performance. Here are some key differences between the two platforms:

  • Battery Technology and Architecture: The BEV3 platform features an updated battery architecture, allowing for greater flexibility in battery sizes and configurations. This advancement enables GM to fine-tune its EV offerings for different market segments and consumer preferences, optimizing range and performance.
  • Scalability and Flexibility: The BEV3 platform is designed to be more scalable and adaptable, facilitating the development of various vehicle types, including compact cars, SUVs, and trucks. This flexibility allows GM to efficiently respond to evolving market demands and expand its EV portfolio.
  • Advanced Features: The BEV3 platform incorporates advanced technologies such as GM's Ultium battery system, which boasts higher energy density and improved efficiency. This translates to extended range and enhanced performance for vehicles utilizing the BEV3 platform.
  • Super Cruise Integration: One of the notable advancements with the BEV3 platform is its seamless integration with GM's Super Cruise technology, available in the Bolt EUV. This hands-free driver assistance system sets a new standard for safety and convenience in the EV market.

General Motors' decision to resume production of the Chevy Bolt EV and EUV marks a significant step forward for the company's electric vehicle strategy. By addressing safety concerns, introducing the innovative Bolt EUV variant, and transitioning to the BEV3 platform, GM demonstrates its commitment to electrification and technology advancement. As the automotive industry continues to evolve, this strategic move positions General Motors at the forefront of sustainable transportation innovation, catering to diverse consumer preferences and contributing to a greener future.
