How to Get Your Car Ready for Spring

With longer days and nicer weather comes a desire to hit the open road for some spring roadtrips. Winter weather is particularly hard on your vehicle, which is why it’s important to get your vehicle freshened up for spring. Here are some tips for getting spring it ready!

1. Wash It

As silly as it sounds, giving your vehicle a thorough wash is a great way to get it ready for spring. Winter road salt and dirt can accumulate and cause damage to your vehicle if not removed. Giving it a thorough wash with soap and water, including spraying down the underside, wheels and door jams will make sure that all the dirt and grime has been removed. You can do this yourself at your local car wash or get it professionally detailed. It will also give you a nice shiny clean vehicle to ride around in.

2. Change the Wiper Blades

Cooler temperatures in winter can be detrimental to your wiper blades. Make sure they are not cracked and making full contact with the windshield. If necessary, replace them by making a stop by your local auto parts store or contacting your local dealership.

3. Check the Tire Pressure

Cooler temperatures can also cause fluctuations in your tire pressure. For your safety and to help with fuel economy, make sure that all of your tires are properly inflated. This will provide you with the best traction and will also prevent wasted fuel as your vehicle tries to push under inflated tires down the road.

4. Check Your Fluids

Just like your wipers and tires, winter can mess with your fluid levels as well. A quick check of your oil level, wiper fluid, coolant and the others will make sure your vehicle is in perfect working order.

5. Check Your Battery and Connections

There are few things worse than a car that will not start. To make sure that old man winter hasn’t gotten the best of your battery, have it checked to make sure that it still has a good charge and that all the connections are secure and corrosion free.

6. Clean the Interior

By giving the interior of your car a vacuum, washing the windows, cleaning the dash and adding a new air freshener or two, you can revitalize the interior of your car. It will help to maintain the value of your vehicle and make trips more enjoyable. Nobody likes to ride in a stinky car!

7. Rotate the Tires

Rotating your tires is a great way to increase their longevity and prevent unnecessary tire wear. By consulting your dealer or owner’s manual, you can determine how often this is necessary. But by doing it every spring, you will get in a good habit and help to keep your tires rolling!

8. Check Your Spare Tire

One thing many of us forget to do is check the pressure in our spare tire. It’s important to make sure that it is always properly inflated, so that it’s ready to go when you need it. There is nothing worse than changing a flat tire to also find that your spare is also flat. Checking your spare tire every spring and fall is a great habit to get into.

You can also bring your vehicle to the Eagle Ridge Certified Service Department for a full check up to make sure that everything is ready to go for all of the spring and summer driving. Safe travels!
