It’s not a big change but it is meant to reflect the future direction of the company. For the first time since 1964, the company’s logo has gone through a major overhaul. There have been subtle changes since then, for example, in 2001 the logo had a 3D look. But this is the most dramatic change since the 60’s.
The new logo is just as simple as previous iterations but it now features lowercase script for the “gm” along with an underline for the “m”. The underline for the “m” is meant to look like a plug which reflects the future of the company.
General Motors has invested heavily into electrification and will continue to do so over the next few years. “The new logo builds on a strong heritage while bringing a more modern and vibrant look to GM’s familiar blue square. The new brand identity extends to technology brands including Ultium. The team of GM designers tasked with creating the new logo considered how to balance the history and trust inherent to the existing design with GM’s vision for the future.” General Motors stated in a press release.
The updated logo will be coloured in a few different shades of blue as well as black. GM has announced that it plans to launch 30 new all-electric vehicles by 2025 with more than 40% of their model lineup to feature some sort of electrification by that time.
