Up to date with the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV
The first electric pickup truck from Chevy has been unveiled. The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV will soon be in dealerships starting spring 2023. Based on GM’s Ultium battery technology, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV is expected to deliver the power and capability that Chevrolet trucks are known for.
What’s Under the Hood?
Short answer, a trunk. Because it is an electric vehicle, the batteries are part of the floor with the electric motors occupying less space than a traditional engine and transmission powertrain. The battery architecture uses a 24-module Ultium battery pack which will enable the Silverado EV to have a range of up to 640 km.
The battery can be recharged from DC fast chargers (level 3) of up to 350 kW capabilities. From powerful chargers such as those, the Silverado EV can add 160 km of driving range in as little as 10 minutes.
In terms of power, the RST First Edition will be available with up to 660 hp and 780 lb-ft of torque. This will be enough to propel the Silverado EV to 60 mph (96 km/h) in less than 4.5 seconds according to GM. The lower trim Work Truck (WT) will have 510 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque. To put that into perspective, the WT will have more power and torque than the gasoline powered Silverado with the 6.2L V8.
With this much power on tap, the Silverado EV RST will have a tow rating of 10,000 lbs and a payload rating of 1,300 lbs. The Silverado EV WT will have slightly lower numbers of 8,000 lbs towing and 1,200 lbs payload. However, after the initial launch, Chevrolet will introduce a fleet model with up to 20,000 lbs of towing.
You can also use the Ultium battery to recharge or provide power to auxiliary tools or camping equipment or provide power to your home thanks to the 10.2 kW PowerBase charging system. The Silverado EV can also charge another EV with the use of an accessory charge cord during times in need.

Deep Dive: Ultium Battery Technology
What Tech does the Silverado EV have?
In addition to the new Ultium based battery and propulsion technology, the new Chevrolet Silverado EV is equipped with technology and advanced software that allows for easy updates over time.
Stepping inside the Chevy Silverado EV, you will find a 17-inch LCD infotainment screen and an 11-inch driver display. There is also a driver head-up display that offers a 14-inch field of view.
A major feature that will enable the Silverado EV to be up to date with current technologies is the first application of Ultifi. A new Linux-based software platform that was developed in-house by GM. This allows for rapid and frequent software updates that gives drivers the opportunity to evolve their vehicles over time, enhancing the capabilities of the vehicle and providing access to cloud services in the most flexible and efficient way possible.
What Other Features does the Silverado EV have?
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado will be available with 4-wheel steering just like it’s GMC Hummer EV brother. However, unlike the GMC Hummer EV, Chevrolet has not announced if the Silverado EV will have the Crab Walk feature for added maneuverability.
The Silverado EV will also be available with Chevrolet’s MultiFlex tailgate that allows for 6 different functions. Coupled with a new mid-gate that opens the bed to the passenger cabin, items up to 10-feet in length can be placed securely in the truck.
On the move, the new Chevrolet Silverado EV will provide an exceptional ride experience thanks to a new independent rear suspension system and available adaptable air suspension. As well, long highway drives will be made much easier thanks to available trailering-capable Super Cruise. The hands-free driver assistance technology will allow drivers to travel hands-free on more than 320,000 km of highways across Canada and the United States.
When is it available?
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV will be built alongside the GMC Hummer EV and upcoming GMC Sierra EV at GM”s Factory ZERO in Detroit. The Chevrolet Silverado EV WT will be the first to roll out of this factory in the spring of 2023 with the RST First Edition arriving in the Fall of 2023. Shortly thereafter, production will ramp up and new variants of the Silverado EV will be produced including the Silverado EV Trail Boss.
How much does the Chevrolet Silverado EV cost?
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV WT will have a starting MSRP of $52,448 CAD. The RST First Edition will cost $119,948 CAD. GM will produce different versions with MSRPs around $50,000, $60,000, $70,000, $80,000 (all USD) and more, allowing customers to choose the truck that meets their capability and pricing needs.
