Chevrolet Previews the All-Electric Blazer SS

2024 Chevrolet Blazer SS

Chevrolet is on a path to a fully electrified future. The Chevrolet Silverado EV marks the first of the new generation of Ultium based electric vehicles. The Chevrolet Blazer SS marks the second model to utilize GM’s new Ultium battery technology and propulsion systems. Unfortunately, we don’t know much about this new model except that the full reveal will be on July 18th, 2022. However we can deduce some pieces of information from the recently released 2023 Cadillac Lyriq.

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer SS and Cadillac Lyriq are both based on the same Ultium platform. This is a highly flexible platform in terms of how many battery cells can be added and what sort of propulsion it can have. Either rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive. We suspect that the Blazer SS EV will have an AWD system that will be capable of delivering around 500 hp. The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq will have the same capability in early 2023. Most likely the SS will not be the only trim level of the new Blazer EV. There will undoubtedly be a RWD version in which case power will be at around the 340 hp mark just like the RWD Lyriq.

The electric range of the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer SS is not known and is much harder to guess. Cadillac has not announced the range of the AWD Lyriq but the RWD electric range is known. It is 502 km (312 miles) and if there is a RWD version of the Blazer EV, it will most likely have roughly the same electric driving range. Usually the electric driving range drops by approximately 50 to 70 km with the addition of AWD.

Cadillac LYRIQ

Chevrolet only released one teaser image of the upcoming Blazer SS so we have no idea of what the interior looks like or what features it may be available with. But we can guess - with a fair amount of certainty - that it may be available with Super Cruise. This is a hands-free driving aid for use on highways throughout the United States and Canada. New Ultium based vehicles, such as the Lyriq and Silverado EV, have an Android Automotive based infotainment system with Google built-in. This not only allows for a customizable infotainment system but also gives access to seamless Google Assistant integration and voice controls. We expect the Blazer SS to have this feature as well.

Chevrolet will provide more details on the 2024 Blazer EV on July 18th, 2022 and expect the Chevy Blazer EV to arrive in showrooms in the spring of 2023.
