A Look Into the 2019 Corvette Stingray

Corvette Stingray

The legendary performance and style of the iconic Corvette Stingray laid dormant for 45 years. Re-igniting the imaginations of American sports car aficionados in 2014 when the Stingray badge was dusted off, and planted back into the consciousness of the automotive world.

A lot has changed since the debut of the 1963 C2 Corvette Stingray. But as we take a closer look at the 2019 Corvette Stingray, we’re sure to find evidence of this unique innovator of American muscle.

Style

Straight up, power and precision are the pillars of the 2019 Stingray. The dynamic aggressiveness of the newly styled body, hood, and flanks is that of an athletic, bold, and menacing automobile that is purpose-built to be as fast and as agile as possible. The body of the Stingray is seamlessly integrated with advanced aerodynamics and cooling components that give function to its form.

A fully functional hood air extractor helps minimize front-end lift, while sculpted Bi-Xenon HID headlamps adorn the low-slung nose of the vehicle, illuminating the road with laser-precision.

Inside, the available and lightweight carbon fibre and aluminum trim give the standard GT style bucket racing seats an upscale and modern appeal. While available Napa leather and the driver-oriented flat-bottom race-inspired steering wheel create a unique juxtaposition between comfort, and the back-of-the-mind perception of extreme performance.

Power, Performance & Efficiency

The heart of the Corvette will always be its resounding might, its rumble, and the power of its spirit. The Corvette Stingray is powered by an all-aluminum 6.2L LT1 V8 engine generating a neck-snapping 460 horsepower and 465 lb/ft of torque while shooting the Vette from 0-60 in a blistering 3.7 seconds.

The direct-injected 6.2L power plant is mated to either an 8-speed paddle-shifted automatic transmission, or to a classic manual transmission – with a couple modern twists. The manual boasts 7-speeds and Active Rev Matching tech to help minimize engine strain on downshifts and maximize driver performance.

The Z51 performance package couples that transmission and engine to an electronic limited-slip rear differential for additional traction and grip, as well as a performance exhaust and suspension.

With all that power under the hood, the Corvette boasts some rather impressive fuel efficiency statistics. The Stingray and its Grand Sport cousin can achieve 14L/100km City, and  9L/100km highway.

Technology & Innovation

Corvettes have a time-tested reputation as marvels of redneck ingenuity – bolting massive crude V8’s to lightweight frames, and calling it a day. No more. The 2019 Corvette Stingray benefits from a long list of ultra-modern and technologically advanced features geared at improving performance and driver-friendliness, as well as comfort.

The available Magnetic Selective Ride Control system is a real-time magnetic damping system that adjusts to, and responds to changing road conditions every 15 milliseconds. It uses a metal-infused suspension fluid to align and become rigid during hard cornering, giving drivers the confidence – and ability – go push harder through the turns.

A reconfigurable, digital instrument cluster features three unique themes that give driver’s different information, tracking vehicle dynamics like g-force and tire temperature. Instruments are also projected onto the windshield for a techy heads-up display that allows drivers to keep their eyes on the road. An available performance data recorder logs video and vehicle transmissions of your driving sessions with real-time performance data transmitted directly to an SD card.

In the comfort arena, the Corvette comes with all of the user-friendly amenities you’d expect in a luxury vehicle. These include a top-notch infotainment system with premium BOSE stereo, 4G LTE WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
