2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Powertrain Options
The list of available 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 powertrain configurations is a long one. Whether you use your truck for driving from job site to job site in the city or for taking the family and the trailer to the cabin, there’s a powertrain option that will fit your needs.
Engines
4.3L EcoTec3 V6
The base engine that is available on the Chevrolet Silverado is a naturally aspirated 4.3L V6. It produces 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque and is equipped with Active Fuel Management (AFM) for improved fuel economy figures.
It is capable of towing up to 9,800 lbs (when properly equipped) and can return up to 15.1 L/100km in a city and 11.5 L/100km on a highway of fuel efficiency. These numbers do go up a bit with 4WD to 15.8 and 11.9 respectively.
2.7L Turbo I4
A new engine for the 2019 model year Silverado is a 2.7L turbocharged inline-4. It is capable of producing 310 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque. Although it is a relatively smaller sized engine than the V6, it can tow up to 11,600 lbs in 2WD and 11,400 lbs in 4WD configurations. What’s more, it is also more fuel efficient with up to 11.9 L/100km of fuel efficiency in a city and 10.3 L/100km on a highway.
5.3L EcoTec3 V8
The next engine up is the most popular choice with Chevy Silverado owners. It is an updated version of the 5.3L that was introduced with the previous generation Silverado 1500 and it now features Dynamic Fuel Management (DFM). This system can change how many cylinders are firing depending on the driving situation. For example on a highway under light load, the engine can be running on as little as 2 cylinders for maximum fuel efficiency. The fuel ratings can be as low as 14.1 L/100km in a city and 10.2 L/100km on a highway with 2WD. Again, those numbers climb a bit to 14.9 and 10.8 respectively with 4WD. But when you need power, it can develop 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque.
3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel
The second new engine for the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is an all-new 3.0L Duramax inline-6 turbo-diesel. Not much has been announced about the Duramax diesel engine apart from the power figures. It will be capable of producing 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. At the time of writing this article, fuel economy and towing figures have not been released.
6.2L EcoTec3 V8
The top engine for the Chevy Silverado 1500 is the 6.2L V8. It is capable of producing 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque with a maximum tow rating of 12,200 lbs. But it’s not all about power as it is quite efficient for its size. It too features DFM and as a result it can achieve up to 15 L/100km in a city and 12 L/100km on a highway with 4WD (2WD is not available with this engine).

Three different transmissions are available with the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500; a 6-speed, 8-speed, and 10-speed automatic.
The 4.3L V6 gets the 6-speed automatic. The 2.7L turbo and 5.3L V8 get the 8-speed automatic. And the 3.0L Duramax diesel and 6.2L V8 get the 10-speed automatic.
Powertrain Optional Packages
Z71 Off-Road Package
For those wanting their trucks to be a bit more off-road capable, consider opting for the Z71 package. It adds Z71 Off-Road suspension, hill descent control, skid plates, a 2-speed AutoTrac transfer case, and locking rear differential.
Performance Upgrade Package
If you want that extra little bit of “oomph” out of your truck, the Performance Package gives you just that. It adds a performance air intake and a cat-back exhaust for improved air flow both before and after the engine for the boost in power and torque.
Warranty
The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is covered bumper to bumper by a 3 year or 60,000 km New Vehicle Warranty. It covers anything that may be faulty or subject to premature wear & tear. However, it does not cover normal wear items such as brake pads or tires if they wear at a normal rate.
The Chevy Silverado’s powertrain is covered by a 5 year or 100,000km Powertrain Warranty which covers the Engine, Transmission, Transfer Case (if equipped), and any other powertrain related components.
