2016 Colorado and Canyon Duramax Diesel Info

colorado diesel engine

The long anticipated details about the 2016 GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado Duramax Diesel options have finally been revealed! In addition to the two existing engine choices (a 200HP 2.5L inline four and 305HP 3.6L V-6) the Duramax should hit dealer lots this fall.

This engine option will be a 2.8L turbo-diesel in-line four producing 181HP and a 7,700 lb towing capacity. The Duramax will be available on the SLE and SLT trims (for the Canyon) and on the LT and Z71 trims (for the Colorado). You will also find the Z82 trailering package, locking 3.42:1 rear differential and a driver switchable exhaust brake.

The starting price looks to be below $35,000 before any manufacturer incentives. The Duramax can also run on up to 20 percent biodiesel and the premium powertrain features cooled exhaust gas recirculation that routes some of the spent gases back into the air intake.

We are still waiting on definitive EPA estimated fuel economy numbers, but you can expect the Colorado and Canyon to push 30 or more mpg on the highway with the turbo-diesel option. This marks the second diesel offering to hit the market for trucks smaller than heavy duty options. It is a market that is expected to be extremely hot!
