The Coquitlam Crunch is an annual event which started back in 2010 and was founded by Alexander Bell. The event was created to raise enough funds to launch a Coquitlam Diversity Initiative Fund for Coquitlam. With a target of $10,000 in 5 years, Alex reached the goal and surpassed it by raising over $16,000. This year the Nothin’ Dragon Masters team became the new co-benefactors, hosts, and organizers of the event. With their 50+ members, the dragon boat team consists primarily of seniors who still prefer to have an active lifestyle and who are also involved in the community with helping and mentoring challenged youths from the Tri-Cities in the sport of dragon boating.

This year’s event features 3 categories; The Stair Master, The Make it or Break it, and The Recreational category. The Stair Master begins at 8am and goes until 8:30am with the goal of seeing how fast you can climb up the 437 stairs of the trail. The Make it or Break it category consists of seeing how many times you can go up and down the trail within a 4 hour period. And finally The Recreational category is for those that are not interested in setting times and just want to do a healthy exercise and support the event. The entire event starts at 8am on September 10th and finishes at 1pm. The trail itself starts in the parking area next to Scott Creek Middle School where Eagle Ridge GM will be handing out water and energy drinks and it goes up the mountain to finish at Eagle Ridge mountain drive where Eagle Ridge GM will have another tent handing out more water and energy drinks to the thirsty competitors.
