Shift From SUV To Pickup In No Time Flat
How long does it take to convert an SUV cabin into an extended pickup box? With the smartly designed Convert-A-CabTM system, Avalanche's MidgateTM easily folds down, with no tools required - in less than a minute. With the MidgateTM down, the pickup box can carry 4′x 8′ sheets of building material, and support payload capacities of up to 601 kg (1,326 lb). And that's not the only way Avalanche makes easy work of transporting a serious load - grab handles improve access to the box, while eight cargo tie-downs make it simple to secure cargo. Adding to the convenience is a lockable 48L (1.7 cu. ft.) top box storage compartment. There's even a cargo light. Thoughtful, just like so many aspects of Avalanche.

Take a ride in Avalanche's cabin with the MidgateTM in the upright position and you will immediately think you are sitting in a spacious and luxurious SUV with seating for up to six. That's because you are. Your comfort is enhanced by standard features like the dual-zone climate controls than enable the driver and front passenger to select individual temperature settings. For the ultimate in luxury, LTZ models feature leather-appointed seating surfaces throughout the cabin. Space Management Meets Engine Management
Avalanche takes adaptability to a higher level, not just in the way the cabin space can be reconfigured. The 320 horsepower Vortec 5.3L V8 has a number of engine management systems that also adapt to different requirements - and by doing so, they increase fuel efficiency. 
Active Fuel Management® shuts down half of the cylinders to conserve fuel when power demands are low. Variable Valve Timing (VVT) optimizes combustion timing to not only increase fuel efficiency, but also maximize low-end torque. A six-speed automatic transmission with two overdrive gears is also engineered for efficiency. Like so many features in Avalanche.
